Craft Cocktail #7 | The Mandarin Mule

The Moscow Mule is a very popular fall drink here in New Orleans; it’s got the right amount of sweet and sour balance that makes any drink great. Ginger-lovers will love this drink. It’s a great recommendation for vodka drinkers who want to try something new. This variation of the Moscow Mule, called the Mandarin Mule, is a nice alternative for those who aren’t necessarily the biggest fans of the former version, but are intrigued by the idea. The ginger and orange combo brings a great flavor and unique taste, while the vanilla adds a little extra sweetness and another layer of savory goodness.


 

Here are the ingredients:

  • orange slices
  • simple syrup
  • vanilla vodka
  • ginger beer or ginger ale

Now I must warn you: There are people who just don’t like ginger beer. That’s ok, because the drink tastes even better with ginger ale.The recipe is very simple, but also very effective at making your tastebuds dance with joy!


 

STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS

1 – Add about 3-5 orange slices to a Collins or highball glass with appx. 1oz. of simple syrup.

2 – Muddle until all the juice is extracted from the orange slices.

3 – With the muddled oranges still in the glass, fill the glass with ice.

4 – Add a shot of vanilla vodka.

5 – Fill the rest of the glass with ginger beer or ginger ale.

6 – Mix the drink using a tumbler together so that the ingredients can be distributed throughout the whole drink. Pour the drink back into the glass.

7 – Dress the drink however you like. This is where you can get creative. I decided to add an orange slice. You can add vanilla sticks or a vanilla-flavored sugar rim!

It’s officially fall now, but I’ll be making these until its time to make spiked egg nog.
